Happy New Year!!! Nick and Evelyn are getting married in two weeks and came over from Ohio for their engagement series. During the shoot, (the image at the bridge) I walked out on the ICE, I saw footprints and thought it was cool. Everything was fine until I went to get off and it broke!!! Such a classic moment in my life. AND the 29 degree air temperature attacked me!

I calmly got out, (ok totally panicked inside), wiped the slush and ice off my camera and proceeded to shoot! Nick and Evelyn were shocked and asked if I wanted to stop. My reply, "I waited 2 hours for this light, we are shooting!"

It might be the funniest moment that's happened to me. Needless to say, Nick and Evelyn are AWESOME! See ya soon...

Home from Africa!

I am officially home from Africa and its business as usual. WOW, What a trip its been & I want to thank everyone for your prayers as I felt them and saw their evidence in my travels! MEDOSEY! That is thank you in the Fanti language of Ghana. Naturally my weddings take my priority, but once I have them edited I will be editing/posting images from Africa! I saw some amazing things but it was all about the people! I fell in love with their attitudes and kindness!

BTW! My work from Africa will be on Exhibit at Fe Gallery in Lawrenceville Dec. 10th, 2009. until the January 2010. If you can stop in the opening night and say hello, that would be great! I will be there around 8:pm.

What a day in October!!! It was freezing but Emily was a trooper! She froze but made beautiful photographs. G20 Pittsburgh Protest

I had the opportunity to cover the G20 protest in Pittsburgh (up close and personal). I felt a lot of mixed emotions because Pittsburgh is my hometown. I know all the streets and love the people. It was crazy to see it as a police state as if George Orwells novel 1984 had come true! There was a ton of foreign journalists and they were hoping for a clash, it almost happened. I do not agree with this form of protesting, however it was a unique opportunity to cover as a local photographer. It was also my first time getting tear/pepper gassed!

Saturday it rained NON-STOP (a total surprise for September weather). However, Amanda didnt complain once nor did she get discourage! It was a true example to me of how to be when things dont work out the way you planned.

Amanda's dream was a candle lit ceremony! It was a bit tricky to pull off without ruining the ambiance with flash. I used my fastest glass and worked with the light...it turned out beautiful!
Thank you Amanda & Rick for letting me share this day with you, no matter the weather your day was simply beautiful!

Ben & Jackie (The Wedding @ Phipps)

Ben & Jackie pulled out the stops & had the most beautiful wedding at Phipps Conservancy in Oakland. The place drips with style and lush accoutrements. But before we get started, I took the boys up a few blocks from the hotel to this AWESOME vintage bill board. Love that black on black! Little did I know how much FUN I was going to have today here is quick preview of my favorites!

Jackie picked out the colors of these bouquets and I love them!

Phipps has so many goodies, this is from a beautiful reflecting pool on the opposite side.

This wedding meant a lot to me personally. I worked with Jackie for a couple years and she always took time to look at all my photos and encourage me. She promised me I would shoot her wedding one day and when the time came, she booked me without hesitation! I am very grateful to have known Jackie and Ben as friends, but even more honored they chose me to do such a special job. Thank you, I had a blast!!!

I would also like to shout out to my friends who also supported me in their own way and it warmed my heart to see you all. Too bad we didnt see them on the DANCEFLOOR, Hmmm.

God has given me this talent and it’s a joy to touch people lives with it. Love you guys!

What a day for photography! Saturday was the prettiest weather I ever saw since I have been shooting weddings! Sarah & Devon saw each other before the ceremony and we had the best portrait session. I surprised them with some beautiful spaces and we listen to Sigur Ros while shooting.
Sarah had a beautiful gown and so did her the little girls in her wedding!This might be my new favorite Groomsmen portrait!The light came ripping through on the buddle exit, was perfect!I love this shot of Sarah! Something tells me she and Devon are gonna have kids : )

Some of my weddings take me all over, this had me travel to Jackson PA which is between Scranton and Binghamton NY. My long time friend Bridgid was getting married on the farm where she grew up as a child. It had been years since I visited the place but what a treasure chest of vintage goodies.

I love this chair and these shoes together. The braiding on the shoes echo’s the back of the chair. I was told it was discovered in the basement after years of neglect.

Preparation of the veil, love this silhouette...

Bridgid is one of the sweetest brides I ever had the pleasure of working for...All day she was big smiles and full of laughter. No matter the stress, she never lost her cool!

I shot the jewelry she would wear in front of her great grandmothers portrait, the ring was hers. I love to work in family history into my brides wedding photos.

Parents of the Bride, Mr. & Mrs. Corrigan, they are truly some of the sweetest people I ever meant. They treat everyone like their own family. They raised 5 of their own children and over 32 foster children. That’s a great legacy!

Lots of children in this family, Bridgids nephews + Jims Son and neice. I love this photo, they are soooo cute!!!

This is my favorite, this is their personalities and I love this old barn for texture.

You couldnt help but SMILE when your around Bridgid, she was such a gorgeous bride!

Ok, so it rained, none to worry, we used their parent’s living room for portraits, this place gave me so many ideas!

After the rain had stopped, John put on one heck of a fireworks show! WOW!

I couldn't get any cell service up there and for a second I felt pretty disconnected from my life. By the end of the trip I realized how addicted to technology I was and how nice it was to be away from cell phones, computers, internet and cable news.

Reality came crashing back in as the next day when I found myself back in NYC. I am looking to get my MFA in Photography as I am starting to teach more and more. Congrats to Jim and Bridgid, You are both truly sweet people and it was an honor to share in such a beautiful moment of time with you, I miss you already!

Fellow photographer and long time friend Dean Beattie married Amy yesterday. They had an intimate ceremony in their back yard of Carnegie. Both are professional photographers, Amy is a commercial and Dean is fine art and weddings. They asked me to stop over and take a couple shots for them. What a fun time! BTW the temps were like 90 + humidity. Congrats to Dean and Amy, I am truly happy for you!

This unique necklace was very vintage, it belonged to Amy's grandmother and the wings moved.I love this shot of Amys son, almost as if you can see a bit sadness in him to give his mother away : ) She is in good hand little fella! Ha ha, this cracks me up, notice her son wandering around with the HUGH Orange gun, LOL! Love the contrast!

Saturday John and Carolyn tied the knot in Shadyside at the beautiful Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Carolyn found me through a mutual friend Danielle whom I love dearly and want to thank personally for connecting us. Carolyn is from here originally but just moved back from San Francisco. John is from Scotland, but they met in the most romantic city on earth, Prague!

Hmmm, this looks a bit set up, LOL! Carolyn is tossing while Danielle, Sera and Lauren (little girl) make every effort for reception...They make such a sweet couple and I love seeing Carolyn’s face glow in all these pictures! She was so happy all day. There was a bounce in her step everywhere she went. That joy spread through all our hearts just watching her live in the moment. Congratulations John and Carolyn!!!! Thank you for letting me capture the moments that defined a very special day! And special thanks to my former student Sera for assisting me on this shoot.

Amy loved my work with bridges and what better icon for a Pittsburgh Wedding? We chose the glorious 16th street bridge.

Their ceremony was very non-traditional and my favorite part was a ritual with a glass of wine. Amy and Ian held the glass up and had everyone think & say positive thoughts about their marriage into the glass, then they drank it together.

Ian & Amy just purchased their first house and decided to have their wedding in the back yard. Its a beautiful house tucked away in my old stomping grounds of Spring Hill which is in Pittsburgh's Historical Northside.Everything was organic and earthy at this wedding. Amy is amazing at the beautiful details!
As always, I count it an honor to share in this day with my clients. A place is carved in my heart for each one and I love them dearly. Thank you Ian and Amy for letting me share in this day of beauty!

Ben & Jackie moved to New York City about 9 months ago, which is why we decided to do their engagement series there. This was also a great break from my grind in Pittsburgh. I love Manhattan.
I got news for you, Jackie is made for this town!
Ben really loves Jackie, its in his actions and she responds to it affectionately...
Of course, a tree : ) Its everywhere I go....Ben and Jackie are both actors, so what better way to shoot them than a studio set up? I love this shot because it PERFECTLY fits their personalities. Special thanks to Ben & Jackie for having me up and taking such good care of me!

Funland at Warhol

Last Friday was the opening called, "Funland" at the Andy Warhol Museum. The exhibit was about the lost art of pinball. Modern makers now slap digital photos on them and that's it. Gone is the glory of hand painted and custom design. This exhibit took 2 very accomplished Pittsburgh designers (mike Budai & Brian Holderman) and gave them vintage pinball machines recreate in their own style. They hired me to shoot the machines and the opening...

Kaitlyn & Barry

So Kaitlyn and Barry tied the knot at Armstrong Farms. What a beautiful setting for a country wedding! When you book this venue, the wedding party and guests can stay from Friday til Sunday...That's an awesome idea.

Kaitlyns gown was very elegant and looked amazing on her.

The reception was held in a beautiful barn which was totally cool!

Student Workshop / Gallery Crawl

I am at the end of a long day. I had the honor of teaching some seriously talented students about digital photography at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. Its exciting to see people respond to your passions, because they have it for themselves. Thanks to Rosemary and Sylvia at the Silver Eye Center for Photography for the opportunity!

It was also a dream come true to have my work appear on the Pittsburgh Gallery Crawl which is by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Thank you to Allison Hoge for inviting me and hosting the show. Special thanks also to Caitlin for getting me in!

Talk about your fairy tale weddings, Justin and Jessie's wedding was one people dream of...First off, the church was incredible! Calvary United Methodist in the beautiful old city of Allegheny (Pittsburgh’s Northside). The church opened somewhere around 1899 after a fire destroyed the previous one. The Heinz and Mellon families were the primary contributors to the rebuilding. The amazing fact is that Louis Tiffany himself came to Pittsburgh for 6 months and personally made the stain glass windows in this church. Some of the stain glass is up to 3 inches thick and up to Nine Thousand pieces of glass! Check this out:

Jessie and Justin had a secret rondevu before their ceremony at the Carnegie Institute in Oakland. Jessie loved the shot from Courtney’s wedding and wanted one of her own. I do love that space, no matter how many times its used, its always gorgeous...Do they look AMAZING or what? Is her gown is breathtaking or what? Justin had a few surprises up his sleeve. He totally surprised her with a horse and carriage when they came out of the church.

There was so much beauty in the church, it was hard to leave...I love this back spiraling stair case in the back of the church.
Look at their figures against a sheet of blur as Justin and Jessie take their first dance. At the reception, everyone came ready to DANCE! The entire dance floor joins hands...

I didnt catch this girls name but man was she fun!
Needless to say, thanks to alot of planning, this wedding was a total success! Congrats to Jessie and Justin, enjoy your honeymoon and see ya when you get back!

1. First off, tell us a little about yourself:

I know, for sure, that I was born into the right time period of history because even as a child, I was very visual. Visual media is my forum because I am an extremely creative person. Images have always inspired and influenced me and small, obscure details do not escape my notice. That is why I am an artist, and I am very active in the Pittsburgh art scene.

I produced a fine-art-photography exhibit called “Exposure” that ran for two years here in Pittsburgh. Eventually, more “Exposure” exhibits were opened in Cleveland, Detroit and Dallas, and those in Cleveland and Detroit are still being presented today.

In 2005-Present, I began teaching photography in Cranberry for the Butler Community College – both for credit and non-credit classes.

2. How did you get started in photography?

Believe it or not, I began my career in painting and sculpting because I have always been creative and artistic. But since painting and sculpting were very laborious and consumed a lot of time, I often lost interest before completion. However, nothing has changed my life more than the camera. It was an exciting revelation for me to discover that my creativity absolutely exploded when I picked up a camera. The camera has allowed me greater creativity, but in a faster forum. Photography is such a powerful tool for documenting life experiences and telling people’s stories.

3. Describe your wedding photography approach and style.

When I think of a wedding, it is a magical day when two people become one. It is “a dream come true” to find a mate in this life, and it is the day that every woman dreams endlessly about. I like the “vintage,” “dreamy,” “storybook-style” because it is so timeless and romantic. I love to capture and document those special moments of the wedding day, unobtrusively, without my clients knowing that I am there. It is pure excitement when they return and view the memories that are represented in the final images. Finally, I love to make my work look professionally much like the work exhibited in magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair.

4. What do you like best about your job?

Without a doubt, I love working with the wedding couple! It is my job to learn their individual tastes. I love meeting the families of the bride and groom and listening to stories about them. I start off the day as an acquaintance to the families, and by the end of the wedding, they invite me to the next family reunion. I enjoy documenting and being part of every special occasion in a family’s life experiences. It is a great tradition!

5. What is your all time favorite photo that you have taken?
